Rejection Resilience
It's not us. It's you.
JOB SEARCH

Let’s set the scene:
I stumble upon what seems like the perfect job opportunity. I'm thinking, "This is it! The job I was born for!" I eagerly review my resume, pop in a few missing keywords, write the required cover letter highlighting all my achievements and making it known that they were getting not only a stellar employee, but one with a show she should (obvs) take on the road. I hit that "Apply Now" button and send off my application with stars in my eyes and dreams in my heart.
Nothing.
For several weeks, I wait with bated breath. SURELY they want me! I’m pretty dang good at what I do. I know their products. I USE their products! I’ve studied their brand! I’m PERFECT for this job!
Then yesterday… an EMAIL! I nervously click on it,
Rejected. They are not going further with my application.
I get it. I was one of 338 applicants. I know there is probably SOMEONE out there better than me. Maybe three. IDK.
But then… not five minutes later, ANOTHER email.
Rejected again!
Twelve minutes later… another email.
Another rejection.
ALL FOR THE SAME JOB!!!
At this point, I started to wonder if they were just trying to see how many ways they could politely say, "It’s not us, it’s you." Maybe they were secretly holding auditions for the next big rejection email writer? Was somebody’s elbow leaning on that SEND button? Were they just trying to make a point???
All in all, I got SIX rejection emails from this company. For a job I applied to once.
SIX!!!
Honestly, while most of this was written in jest (I did not hang my heart on this job), I seriously did get six rejection emails within the span of an hour. I’m sure it was just a glitch in the system, but it definitely didn’t do my ego ANY good!
But, it’s better than being ghosted, amiright?
So how was YOUR Wednesday?
